How To Handle an Eclipse   The following will give you points consider when you are preparing for an eclipse. First however, lets define two terms: the solar eclipse and the lunar eclipse.   A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon stands between the Sun and Earth, cutting off the light of the Sun. A solar eclipse is always a new moon, and tends to mark new beginnings.   A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth stands between the Moon and the Sun, cutting off the light of the Sun from the moon. A lunar eclipse is always a full moon and usually marks endings or culmination points.   Now lets review the points to keep in mind about eclipses so that you can better deal with them should any touch you in an unexpected way.   Eclipses are dramatic "wild cards" in our horoscopes. They shake us up so that we can move from one level of evolution and maturity to another, higher phase, fairly rapidly.    Eclipses bring news of life's big events: a birth of a baby, a marriage, a promotion or career breakthrough, important travel, the signing of a vital business deal, the start of ones own business, the sale or purchase of a house, a cross country move, the acquisition of a family pet (or loss of one), surgery or see an important health development, college graduation (or the eclipse may mark the start of study), divorce, publishing a book, and so forth. Monumental meetings and breakups or changes on ones job are also common on eclipse dates. No matter what occurs, it will become evident that the universe is intent on moving you forward.   Events that follow an eclipse have more weight than events brought on by a normal new or full moon. In fact, an eclipse is like a turbo-new or full moon - it packs much more energy and punch. An eclipse may even bring on an event that seems "fated". Eclipses always bring unexpected changes of direction if you have a planet that will be touched. The eclipse does not have to fall in your sign to affect you. (Check your individual forecast to find out more.)    If an eclipse falls on your birthday, the year that follows certainly will be quite eventful. You may experience a big change in lifestyle or in one specific part of your chart.   Guard your health if you are having an eclipse on your birthday, near your birthday, or on your rising sign degrees because you will be a bit more run down than usual.    Take any message you hear at the time of an eclipse seriously. There usually is no way to get a situation reversed. If someone brings news you don?t like on an eclipse realize that there is little chance you can get it reversed, at least not for four months, if ever. See the news as essentially a non-negotiable decision and try to move on.    Eclipses shine the bright light of truth to the part of your life that is touched by the eclipse. Most of the time, eclipses act as brilliant illuminators, revealing a condition that you were unaware existed. They can also act as catalysts to a major life decision. Also under an eclipse, you may finally understand the true character of a person near you.   Imagine that a puzzle piece fell out of the sky into your hands. This new piece of information, when added to the overall picture of your puzzle, will change your understanding of it and bring you a flash of insight. You may say to yourself, "For the first time, I understand!" Now you have a full picture of the situation and can make a fuller, more realistic appraisal of what that it means to you, and what you must do next. You will gain maturity and seasoning.    Even if an eclipse won't affect you, you will nevertheless notice that there is plenty of action around you, not only in your own circle but also in the world at large. The news media will be filled with information.   In your personal life, you will hear of many monumental life events (the kind we listed earlier in #2) in the lives of people you know, both friends and family. You may be called on to help others at this time, so try to keep your schedule light. There is a feeling of life moving on speedily, fast forward, of great acceleration.    With all eclipses, something ends and something else begins. During an eclipse period, you may feel like you are walking across a bridge to a brand new place, with no turning back from where you started. The door behind you latches, and locks. You cant go back because after the eclipse you will know more and understand things that were never clear to you before. In that sense, you really cant go home again.   Try not to issue ultimatums or make big actions under an eclipse. Bide your time and act in a few weeks when there will be less static in the air. Its best to respond to others messages but try not to initiate your own. Said another way, it is better to listen than to act.   Lets say you need to sign a contract - that is OK to do if you are presented with one at eclipse time. You didnt initiate that contract - someone else did. However, lets say you want to have a major talk with your boyfriend or girlfriend because you are unhappy. Do so later, well after the eclipse.   The first is an action someone else is asking you to respond to (good) but the latter is an action you chose to take under the eclipse (not so good). The ancients always wrote that if you act under an eclipse, the plan would not work out quite the way you expected. Thats why its better to consider the ideas of others at eclipse time but not to make proposals or decisions of your own at that time.    You may be feeling more emotional than usual under an eclipse, especially if the eclipse is lunar (full moon). Since your judgment may be impaired or pieces of information missing, try to get as much time as you can to think about what you heard. If you can, wait a week's time before deciding. If someone comes to you with a proposal, consider it carefully. If after looking at it from all sides and you like it, proceed.    A quick response to news generated by the eclipse -- often quite out of the blue---may be required. Have your wits about you! As said earlier, keep your normal schedule light as you might have something new to focus on that will need your immediate attention.   Dont be too quick to judge an eclipse as "good" or "bad" - eclipses may act suddenly but it takes weeks to understand their real meaning. If you should suffer under an eclipse, consider that sometimes the universe had something better for you in mind. Be patient and keep an open mind.   Eclipses can help you do things you never thought you could do. You may be offered a chance to write a book or to record an album, for example. Eclipses sometimes will open a door -- one that was previously impossible to enter.    Eclipses play with our sense of time. They bring events that you assumed were months or years away, to your doorstep now. Here is an example of how an eclipse often works:   You are riding a horse in unfamiliar, beautiful terrain. You were told that you would have to jump a tall stone fence (a substantial obstacle or big-deal project) five miles down the road (later in life). Distracted by the scenery (life) you forget about the fence, until it looms suddenly in front of you. You don't feel ready to jump (take a risk). You cannot imagine going over that fence and surviving! This is a big stretch for you! Yet, it symbolizes something you want to do, so you feel conflicted (fear vs. wanting). Perhaps you momentarily panic or try to stop. However, the horse (your inner power) has been trained to jump and before you can pull on the reigns, you find yourself flying through the air. The horse is doing it for you. You land perfectly. The horse is fine and so are you--but you feel Shaky. It all happened so quickly! You knew the fence was coming up, but being distracted by the scenery (everyday life), you didn't expect it so soon. Now, however, you feel quite accomplished--proud of what you did, and rightly so! Had it not happened without time to think, you may not have had the courage to try. This, dear reader, is the feeling brought on by an eclipse.    A word on the timing of an eclipse. A message brought to you by an eclipse is usually delivered within four days of the actual date of the eclipse, but not always. Yet you can sometimes feel a full moon lunar eclipse as early as two weeks prior to it or up to six months later when another planet is needed to trigger the news. (Most likely however, news will occur either at the eclipse or a month to the day later, plus or minus four day--that is your zone to watch if things don't happen immediately).   Take notice of ALL news and signals you get near the eclipses. While often news is delivered in a dramatic and obvious way, sometimes the news will come in much more subtly, as a secret or as a piece of gossip. Nevertheless it will foretell dramatic changes to come.  Solar eclipses work somewhat differently than lunar eclipses, and emphasize beginnings. (Something may also be ending but the attention is more on the start than the finish.) The changes could phase in over a period of months. Still, the news or timing of those changes often comes as a surprise. If a solar eclipse falls on or within a few days of your birthday you will certainly feel the effects of it over the course of the year. How Will the Eclipses Affect You Personally?   A lunar eclipse is a Full Moon as the earth stands between the Sun and the Moon.  A lunar eclipse comes from the East. The effect of this eclipse is usually felt immediately, so be extremely careful. Guard against accidents and injuries for at least 24 hours if this touches sensitive points or planets in your chart. During an eclipse, the Earths atmosphere becomes highly charged with electrons. A lunar eclipse can mean a disintegration and you may need to make some adjustments in your life in an effort to integrate yourself with your environment.   The effect of an eclipse is longer lasting when another transiting planet is involved. During this year's Partial Solar Eclipse, Uranus, the planet of unexpected change, is involved, making this an especially highly charged event. Eclipses work in pairs. The house containing the solar eclipse is the cause and the house containing the lunar eclipse is the effect.   Eclipse through the Houses    Eclipse in the 1st House An eclipse on the Ascendant will touch you personally and physically. Watch health habits and be extra careful to avoid accidents and injuries. An eclipse in the 1st House may bring favorable changes into your life when well aspected. This is the house of self-image and you may want to present yourself in a different way. This could mean a change of hairstyle or new clothing.   Eclipse in the 2nd House In favorable aspect, this can bring a financial windfall or new opportunities for earning a good income. This is the house of money and possessions, gains or losses, psychological as well as physical. If the eclipse is afflicted in your chart, however, it can bring a financial crisis or the potential for a death in your family circle.   Eclipse in the 3rd House There may be changes in your relationship with close relatives or your neighborhood may change. This eclipse can trigger more travel, a new car, more communication with others and for some it can bring a teaching job.   Eclipse in the 4th House Eclipses in angular houses are always more important. They bring changes related to family and domestic matters, loss or remodeling of an old home or the purchase of a new one. Family changes could add a new member or bring a death. By aspect, the changes may involve your partner or career. This is the house of beginnings and endings; sometimes it bring an end to a long lasting relationship.   Eclipse in the 5th House This is the house of pleasures and for the eligible it can bring an ocean cruise, a new romance, the birth of a child or a new creative enterprise. The investor and the gambler may have touches of luck if this is well aspected.   Eclipse in the 6th House There will be changes in your job routine or your working conditions. There may be new employment opportunities or new employees at your existing job. Watch your diet, health habits and get enough exercise and eat the proper foods. If you have been troubled by colds, fevers and infections, this is a good time to change your health regime. This is one of the important derivative houses. The eclipse may affect aunts and uncles, yours or your partners.   Eclipse in the 7th House This will bring some changes related to partnership matters, business or marriage. This is also the house of open enemies, competitors and your dealings with the public. The changes may come mainly for your partner, or he/she is the cause of the crisis.   Eclipse in the 8th House Changes in the house of changes can involve regeneration, partnership money, death, taxes, sex, inheritance, insurance settlements, long term debt, government pensions or social security. If the eclipse is adverse to your natal Mars, it can bring unwanted sex; if the eclipse is in good aspect to Venus or Jupiter, it will start a better financial period.   Eclipse in the 9th House In the house of the higher mind, it can be a time for education, teaching, lecturing, publishing, studying philosophical or religious matters or some of the occult sciences. You may take a long journey or deal with foreign affairs. When afflicted, this can involve religious difficulties with others (fanatics), problems with strangers, trouble with in-laws or legal problems.   Eclipse in the 10th House This is your house of status, reputation, profession, parents, employer and authority. When beneficial, you can get promoted, get married or find yourself in the spotlight. When afflicted, it can bring the death of someone important in your life, or loss of status, reputation or employment.   Eclipse in the 11th House Changes will involve friends, involvement with groups and your own goals. You could begin to see the benefits from your profession or be elected to office in an organization. You may see your fondest wishes come true. If afflicted, you should be careful in all relationships and do not borrow or lend money to friends.   Eclipse in the 12th House This is the house of self-undoing and an eclipse here can bring confinement, restriction, illness, hospitalization, imprisonment or any kind of karmic payback. You could be surprised by enmity from others. Under favorable aspects, you find employment or promotion in a hospital or other institution. Your psychic abilities are stimulated. You may experience profound dreams as your intuition increases. Best use of this energy is research, charity work or behind the scenes work. It is a good time to enjoy solitude, or begin a program of self-improvement, study astrology, the occult or take up yoga.   Eclipse on Planets   An eclipse can shut off the energy of the planet obscured. It may do so by conjunction or by aspect. It brings the matters of that planet and the house or houses involved to an interval of change, stress and crisis. Keep in mind the basic nature of the natal planet being eclipsed and how it is aspected in the natal chart.   Solar eclipses are like new moons Lunar eclipses are like full moons. Note that the Lunar Eclipses will always touch at least two houses.   Eclipse on the Sun This is the strongest eclipse you will have in your chart because it touches on your basic ego, vitality and life. It will always bring a major change into your life; this can be in your employment, lifestyle, partners, or your father. Sometimes it brings the change for your father, and in some cases his death. Notice what it brought you 19 years ago and you will see that it is always something important.   Eclipse on the Moon Important changes come into the life of a woman who means a great deal to you. Your instincts, feelings,, and emotions are touched by this eclipse. It will alter your habit patterns or your relationship with a woman. You will have family and domestic changes. You could purchase real estate, become a parent, have more dealings with the public such as opening a restaurant or retail establishment. This eclipse will usher in one of the biggest changes of your life.   Eclipse on Mercury This eclipse affects your employment; you may lose an existing job or secure a new one. You are mentally stimulated to communicate more with others and will be in touch with close friends, relatives and neighbors. There may be changes in your neighborhood. You might travel or buy a new car.   Eclipse on Venus You may be having financial problems related to your own or partners funds. Old relationships are no longer satisfactory and you want changes in youre your love life. You may be rejected by someone you love or you initiate the change. This can bring something new to love into your life or a heartache through the love nature. If this touches into your 12th house, you may be involved in an illicit affair.   Eclipse on Mars When the planet of passion and dynamic energy is eclipsed, you will be more tired and may need a physical to find out what ails you. In some cases this can bring impotence or disinterest in sex. A period when you experience low energy can make you lose your temper and want to fight for your "rights". Evaluate your health regime now and see if it can be improved through diet and exercise.   Eclipse on Jupiter Life expands under Jupiter, but when the light is shut out, you go against all the things that are for your own best interest. Jupiter is the planet of good judgment as well as luck and good fortune. Do not become careless or extravagant at this time. Be ethical in business dealings. Keep things on an even keel in religious and legal matters and be careful in all dealings with in-laws, stranger, or foreingers.   Eclipse on Saturn When positive, you receive additional responsibilities, plus a promotion and title. Saturn, the teacher, has lessons for you to learn and he will give you what you have earned. With this eclipse you may take an older person into your home. Saturn could revive something "dead" from hour past, an old romance, or an old problem. If you do not handle duties and responsibilities in a proper manner, you will find that more are forced on you. You find that lots of things need to repair or discarded.   Eclipse on Uranus This eclipse brings liberation from past conditions. You want freedom, independence and more control over your life. Uranus usually takes something away; be careful how you treat your loved ones. When Uranus is afflicted, it brings chaotic, revolutionary, unpredictable experiences into your life. You will not make progress if you behave in an erratic manner.   Eclipse on Neptune This can bring some mysterious psychic developments into your life if you are sensitive enough to feel Neptunes influence. Neptune touches the soul and causes you to become aware of your spiritual nature. Neptune is subtle, the planet of mystery, imagination, illusion and devoting to an ideal. The eclipse can touch your psychic nature and make you more prophetic or have dreams that come true.  Take note of what you dream. Neptune can deceive if you do not keep your feet on the right path. Avoid drugs, alcohol or other intoxicants.   Eclipse on Pluto A major change, great losses or great gains; Pluto transforms your entire life. This will be a one of a kind experience. You will reevalute things you thought were important and discard a lot of them. This brings a great release of pressure. It is a planet of extremes and drastic measures. You will take an entirely new path in life because of this eclipse. Pluto is a secret force, the subconscious, your most secret desires and this eclipse can bring it all to the surface. This could trigger surgery for some touched by this eclipse.c   Eclipse on Midheaven An Eclipse on the Midheaven  will be a strong focus on your career interests, your work in the world, your reputation and your status. You are on display during this time period. If you want to promote yourself, or sell an idea, you can be more effective than usual because you have increased sensitivity to the mood of others, and can "play to" them. You can appeal to their emotional concerns. This is a good period to choose if you are looking for a time to go for it take steps toward improvement in all areas of your life, but especially your career. A caveat: be also aware that the more visible you are, the more likely that things which are hidden could come to light. If theres a skeleton in your closet, better think ahead on how you would handle its getting out.   A career focus may also mean that issues of polarity may need to be balanced. Your own lifes work and reputation are very important, but without the support of others and of a harmonious home base, your successes could seem hollow and incomplete. If these things are seriously out of balance, you may need to readjust your priorities in order to take best advantage at this time.   Eclipse on Ascendant This Eclipse places you in high focus. This can mean your personal identity, your appearance, your environment, and your close interactions with others. You are looking for attention, and you are likely to get it. Increased popularity or problems can result, depending on what energies you are creating. You may be feeling more emotional than usual, and your emotions are more likely to be on the surface. Whether this is good or bad depends on your level of comfort. In expressing yourself emotionally, and whether emotionalism is appropriate to the occasion. Impulsive outbursts or knee-jerk reactions could create a problem; relating to others with empathy could be an asset. Another possibility is that you could be restless about something or someone in your life and want to make changes. With consideration for others, and with reasonable foresight and thought to avoid impulses that you might regret later, DO it. This is a time to put forward your own interests. An aspect of balance must be a factor, however, in any case, but especially with the Full Moon. What you want for yourself may need to be balanced with outer circumstances, or with others who are important to your life. If you are not thinking clearly about this, and considering all aspects, you could find that having one thing means losing another. Go for it, but be aware. Home
